May Beit Midrash: Should women cover their heads when praying?

We're used to asking men to cover their heads (usually with kippot) at shul. But should this be gendered in an egalitarian setting? What do traditional sources have to say about women covering their heads for similar reasons? Note: this class is for educational purposes only and should not be understood as a change in synagogue policy.
